Pamela, 61

Passionate, curious, stubborn

“At this point in my life, I am brave, open minded and curious; I don't think I was this brave when I was younger - perhaps because too many people were depending on me”

Twinsight: Pamela's story is pure fun - it's like she's aging backwards and becoming braver with every passing day. Talk about freedom! She demonstrates the power of courage and is proof that it's never too late to start living your best life, so why not throw caution to the wind and see where your own bravery can take you? Let's show the world that aging is just a number and that we're all capable of living life to the fullest!

I have found the last few years remarkably freeing. I just turned 61. In 2016, I left my teaching position in Edmonton and moved overseas to Southeast Asia. So, for the past seven years I lived, worked and explored Indonesia, China and Taiwan. I ride a scooter. I try new cuisine and I explore other cultures. At this point in my life, I am brave, open minded and curious; I don't think I was this brave when I was younger - perhaps because too many people were depending on me.

How old are you and how are you feeling about that?
A: I am 61 and I feel great about my age.

Three words that describe you.
A: Passionate, curious and stubborn

What’s the one life lesson that you wish you had figured out earlier?
A: Be in the present moment.

Proudest accomplishment?
A: I think my proudest accomplishment is raising three fantastic children.  Oh -- and ten years of sobriety.

Living and working in Southeast Asia has been remarkable freeing for me.

Have you experienced ageism?
A: Yes, I think that as a woman of my age, my opinions are diminished or dismissed. I have gained value or credibility by being labelled a teacher, mother or wife.

What’s your message to the world?
A: The point of power is in the present moment. Argue your limitations - they shall be yours.

What sparks your joy these days?
A: Walking in nature with my dog and taking pictures.

What’s next for you? What does your future self look like?
A: More travel, yoga, working with youth around theatre, auditioning, clowning, creating a one woman show.

Are there things you are doing now that you couldn’t do before?

A: I control my own time. I can maintain boundaries. I continually express confidence in others' abilities to grow and figure things out.
